Waves and Wine

The sunset last night was pretty. It wasn't really remarkable except for the number of people who were on the beach to watch it AND for the way the sun backlit the waves that were rolling in.  The whole time we've been at Cape Lookout the waves have been rolling in loudly in a conflagration of competing patterns.  When you look out to sea it's obvious that there is some geological formation causing them to break in a crescendo far out from the beach.  There are huge plumes of seaspray that are thrown in the air and you begin to realize that there is a good reason why no one is riding the rollers on a surfboard. The sunset made this dramatically obvious because it lit the plumes from behind. It was like watching the birth of the earth; God's creation.

This morning we hiked part of the Cape Lookout trail along a 2.6 mile long trail that  juts out into the ocean. The views from the trail, which is very high on the ridge of the spit, were stunning... And scary for someone afraid of heights and cliffs. Nate would have loved running the trail!

We broke camp about 9:30 and headed inland to the Willamette Valley toward wine country. (We were told that Willamette rhymes with "damn it"). The first vineyard we went to was Kristin Hill. After that we went to Amity Vineyards where we tested a wonderful Albarino like we drank in Spain last year.

We headed back west and drove a little further south along the coast to our next campsite at Beachside State Recreation Park.  Jan reserved these sites several months ago, and thus one is primo with a lot of privacy, sheltered from the ever-present ocean winds AND with our own private beach access just steps from the camper... Literally about 25 steps from camper door to beach!

Final photo... Paul trying to get cell service. We haven't seen any place with wifi either.
