The waitress doesn't bring the check...ever. It seems like they don't want to assume you are done with your meal yet. So you actually need to specifically ask for the check. A finger wag won't work.
One cup of coffee is all you get. No one ever asks if you want a refill.
1:00, 4:00, and 8:00 pm are important times. We just haven't figured them all out yet. 1:00 - stores close. Cafes/ restaurants open. 4:00 - some stores re-open, but not all. Some bars/Cafes may still be open or not. Restaurants close. 8:00 - stores close;some bars close; restaurants open.
Everyone likes football (soccer) and automatically begins kicking around a soccer ball, tennis ball, or plastic easter egg.
Basque country, with it's own unique language, has people who more readily speak English than Galicia does. (pronounced 'ga lee thee ah' with a lisp).
We think Basques have lots of tourist jokes. We keep hearing "touristo"...what else can it mean?
